This edition of the Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships did not disappoint. It’s always refreshing to see that the Hayward Magic is alive and well, as these championships delivered several world leads, facility and competition records, and one world record (pending ratification). With the World Championships less than a month away, the anticipation, following these performances, continues to build as the athletes competing for the U.S. are just getting started as they prepare for the rest of the 2022 season.
Track Barn was also well represented at this year’s national championships. Chris Carter came in 7th in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 16.41m. Curtis Thompson placed 2nd in the men’s javelin with a throw of 80.49m. Denim Rogers finished with a time of 14.16 in the first round. In the men’s discus, Joe Brown finished 16th with a best throw of 52.62m in addition to two fouls, Josh Syrotchen placed 9th with 59.33m, and Legend Boyesen finished in 6th place with a throw of 61.49m
It’s important to keep in mind, for those that may not know, that the top 3 finishers in each event that have achieved the world championship standard will have a spot on Team USA. The exception being the reigning world champions, who have an automatic bye into the world championship meet and are not required to participate in the final of their event if they choose not to do so.
Here is a list of the top 3 finishers in each event, including all Track Barn athletes, which are italicized:
